UNDIP Information and Public Relations Students Hone Their Digital Literacy Skills with Lecturers from Universiti Teknologi Mara Malaysia

The Information and Public Relations Program at the Vocational College of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) has once again broadened its students’ academic horizons through the UNDIP Global Classroom (UGC) initiative. Held online via the Zoom platform, this international collaborative teaching initiative aims to equip students with a global perspective on data management. This time, the discussion focused on the main theme “Information and Documentation in the Digital Age.”

The event featured international expert Shamila Mohamed Shuhidan, PhD, from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia, as the speaker. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Endang Fatmawati, S.S., S.Sos., M.Si., M.A., a lecturer in the UNDIP Information and Public Relations Program. A total of 312 enthusiastic participants attended the meeting, which was designed to provide an understanding that in the digital age, information is a vital asset that must be managed effectively, securely, and with high quality to support decision-making and improve organizational performance.

In her presentation, Shamila Mohamed Shuhidan, PhD, emphasized that in the digital age, the success of records management no longer depends solely on the physical storage of archives, but rather on how that information is organized, accessed, and its integrity maintained in cyberspace. She highlighted the transition from traditional documentation to a dynamic digital information ecosystem, where data has become a strategic asset requiring strict and adaptive governance.

The lecture also underscored the importance of digital literacy for students. Shamila Mohamed Shuhidan, PhD, explained that access to collaborative platforms today enables individuals and organizations to document their work and history on a broader scale. Students were encouraged to analyze various case studies on document digitization and how artificial intelligence can optimize information retention and retrieval.

Dr. Endang Fatmawati, S.S., S.Sos., M.Si., M.A., serving as moderator, stated that this event represents a concrete step toward strengthening students’ intellectual capacity to address the challenges of the future information industry.

“We are holding this event to help students understand the urgency of information and documentation management in the digital age. The goal is for them to be able to apply effective data management strategies so they can make a tangible contribution to the utilization of information technology across various sectors,” explained Dr. Endang Fatmawati, S.S., S.Sos., M.Si., M.A. (Monday, April 27th, 2026)

Through this UGC, it is hoped that UNDIP Information and Public Relations students will be better prepared to manage massive information flows and be able to preserve the value of documentation as a sustainable intellectual legacy.
