UNDIP Organizes Product Photography Training for Herbal MSMEs in Kiringan Tourism Village

Yogyakarta, April 11, 2026 — The Information and Public Relations Study Program, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), carried out a community service program through a Product Photography Training initiative targeting herbal drink sellers in Kiringan Jamu Tourism Village, Yogyakarta.

This program was designed to enhance the capacity of herbal producers in utilizing digital media, while also expanding the marketing reach of traditional herbal products by strengthening their visual branding.

The event was opened with remarks by Tiara Pascanoviera Robaeni, S.Ikom., M.I.Kom., who emphasized the importance of product photography as a strategic skill in the digital era. She stated that the training not only focused on technical photography skills but also on understanding how to utilize digital media for product marketing purposes.

“Product visuals are one of the key factors in attracting consumers in the digital era. Through this training, it is expected that herbal products from Kiringan Tourism Village will become more widely recognized and more competitive,” she said.

The material session was then delivered by Nabila Putri Aldira, S.I.Kom., M.Si., who explained the basic techniques of product photography using simple devices such as smartphones. The topics covered included lighting setup, background selection, object focusing, and visual composition to produce attractive product photos without the need for professional equipment.

The program was also attended by INHUM lecturer Irene Syebatia Bumi, M.I.Kom., and involved students Sakdiah Lailal Hasanah Harahap and Atilla Syifa, who actively assisted in technical implementation and supported participants during the practical session.

Following the presentation session, participants engaged in a hands-on product photography practice inside the room. They took product photos using natural lighting, herbal props, and a simple mini studio that had been prepared. Participants showed great enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the practice session.

The Head of the local community association together with the Hamlet Head, Catur, expressed appreciation for the program. He stated that the training was highly beneficial in supporting herbal product marketing strategies, particularly in improving public understanding of the importance of visual branding in marketing.

Through this program, the Information and Public Relations Study Program of UNDIP hopes to provide practical solutions for herbal producers in developing independent product photography skills. In addition, the program is expected to enhance the visual appeal of traditional herbal products so they can reach a wider market.
