Semarang – April 22, 2026, the Information and Public Relations Study Program of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University successfully held the UNDIP Global Classroom (UGC) via Zoom. UGC is an academic internationalization program that provides a global learning space, international guest lectures, and cross-cultural seminars. The event was titled “Strategies for Multiplatform Production and Transmedia Storytelling.”
The event featured Dr. Umar Hakim bin Mohd Hasri from the University of Malaya as a resource person and was moderated by Rizki Halim, S.E., M.I.Kom, a lecturer in the Information and Public Relations Study Program. The meeting, attended by 135 participants, aimed to provide Information and Public Relations students with a more detailed understanding and overview of relevant theories and practices, particularly in the areas of Social Media Campaigns and Multiplatform Content.
In reality, storytelling is inseparable from the concept of content creation in the digital age. With the transmedia storytelling approach, a story is not solely told in a single medium but is developed in an integrated manner across available platforms, creating a more interactive and immersive experience for the audience.
In his presentation, Dr. Umar Hakim highlighted the multimedia concept in transmedia storytelling, which involves the distribution of a story across multiple media. In the digital age, access to collaborative platforms empowers individuals to develop their work broadly through an understanding of multiplatform content production.
This lecture emphasized the need for collaboration between producers and audiences through transmedia storytelling and participatory culture, which creates a more interactive and expansive media experience. Students were invited to analyze cases such as Ejen Ali to build narrative worlds within media and optimize platforms.
Rizki Halim, S.E., M.I.Kom, as moderator, stated that this event also strengthened the academic understanding of UNDIP Information and Public Relations students and international students to foster intellectual growth. “This activity was held to help students understand the concept of transmedia storytelling and participatory culture to apply cross-platform production strategies so that their implementation can influence the utilization of the digital era,” he explained on Wednesday (April 22, 2026).
